History of Danville Rotary

The History of Danville's Rotary Organization

Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, provides humanitarian service, and helps build goodwill and peace throughout the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 31,000 Rotary clubs located in 166 countries.

The Rotary Club of Danville was founded in 1926 with 20 members--the same year Henry Ford began production of the Model A and a loaf of bread cost 9 cents. Today, 140 Danville Rotarians actively support numerous local and international humanitarian efforts such as the eradication of polio, eye surgeries for Indonesian children, clean water projects, college scholarships and tsunami relief—to name just a few.

Most recently, Danville Rotarians contributed $75,000 to help build the children’s playground at Wilderness Trace Child Development Center and the Picnic Shelter at Millenium Park.
